It seems the biggest downside of this fan is the Ease of Installation. The installation of this unit is a little bit tricky and especially if you are not a DIY guy or handyman type of a person.
We bought this model in order to replace the old model of the Hampton Bay Windward 52 in. ceiling fan. During these years, we had installed more than 2 dozen ceiling fans of different types.
We will definitely mention that placement of the remote control receiver in the fan housing near the ceiling is something interesting, it will take a great deal of effort to get the wires of the fan out of your way so you can put the receiver in the right place. I am confident that there has to be a better way to do it.
We are now using two of the Windward IV fans in our living room so when one stopped working it was necessary to replace it with the same model.
Along with installation issues, the good part is that it has introduced a new remote control which is much cleaner and smaller in size as compared to the old model. Additionally, the light installs two bulbs rather than fluorescent 9″ bulb that is used in the older model.
So in short, after assembling and installing, it is too good to be true. The fan is noiseless and provides a good amount of airflow, so we saved a lot of electricity bills by installing it in our space. The new blade design introduced by Hampton Bay does work well for it.
The fan is modern in looks and comes at a very reasonable price.

Is Windward IV fan compatible with a universal remote control?
Yes, Windward IV fan can be used with universal receivers and remote control units. However, the only thing you need to make sure is that you only use a ‘paired’ remote and receiver.
Just remember that there is no guarantee that the original remote and receiver that you currently have will work with the same software as the new one. You have to ensure that you change the receiver as well as the remote control.
Is the fan’s light kit dimmable?
You cannot dim the light if it has CFL light bulbs. However, if you use 60-watt incandescent lightbulbs and also set the “ON/DIM” dipswitch on the remote control (handheld), then you can dim the lights and they will be dimmable.
Can this ceiling fan be installed outdoors?
No, the Hampton Bay Windward fans cannot be used outdoors as they are designed to work indoors rather than in humidity and water conditions.
The water and humidity will result in damage to the fan blades and moisture will build up and can damage the fan motor.
Can the Windward IV fan be mounted onto an angled, vaulted or sloped ceiling?
Yes, you can mount this ceiling fan onto an angled or sloped ceiling, then you will have to use a downrod extension for the installation and on the steep ceiling, you will need the Westinghouse canopy kit.
